Adrian Peterson’s Son Dies After Alleged Beating; Suspect Arrested

1381507245000-USP-20130816-mbr-ah3-021

A 2-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson died on Friday in a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital, the victim of alleged abuse by a man dating the boy’s mother, police confirmed.

Peterson’s father Nelson confirmed Friday afternoon that the child is Adrian Peterson’s. Peterson met with the media Friday, hours before the boy passed away, and said at the time he still planned to play in Sunday’s game against Carolina, but declined to get into details about the case.

“I really appreciate all the support that I’ve been receiving from fans, the Vikings organization,” said Peterson, who was excused to miss Thursday’s Vikings practice before returning Friday. “This is a private matter and I would ask you all to please just respect my privacy and not ask at all about the situation at hand.”

Police arrested Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, who was initially charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant. Sioux Falls police said additional charges are being considered.

Patterson has a prior domestic abuse record with a different woman and child, having pleaded guilty to simple assault in an incident last year involving an adult female and juvenile male.

Sioux Falls police said Patterson recently started a relationship with the mother of the 2-year-old victim. Patterson appeared in court Friday morning in Canton, S.D. His bond had been set at $750,000 in cash before the boy’s death.

The incident occurred in Patterson’s apartment, where the boy had recently moved with his mother. Patterson called 911 on Wednesday evening to report a choking at the Platinum Valley apartment, but Lt. Blaine Larsen of the Sioux Falls Police Department said it became clear at the hospital that the boy’s injuries were not accidental.

Sioux Falls police said the incident was initially reported as a medical emergency.

“As officers and first responders got there, they found child was unresponsive and he was taken to the hospital,” police spokesman Sam Clemens told USA TODAY Sports. “So they ended up calling police about that or letting them know. We had detectives talk to quite a few people to try to figure out what happened. What they ended up finding was that when the injuries happened there was one person with that child, and that person was Joseph Patterson.”

“The injuries they found were head injuries,” Clemens said. “It was obvious to medical staff that abuse had taken place and that those injuries weren’t accidental.”

Clemens said police believe the child’s mother was “gone for a short time, and that’s when we believe the injury occurred.”

Kwame Kilpatrick Sentenced To Serve 28 years In Prison

KwameKilpatrick

Seven months after his historic conviction for public corruption, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds to serve 28 years in prison.

“The government has asked for a sentence of 28 years — I believe that is in fact what his sentence should be,” Edmunds said.

Kilpatrick ran what the government called a money-making racket out of City Hall that steered millions to himself, his family and his friends while the impoverished city hobbled along. The government has asked for a minimum 28-year prison sentence, while the defense says Kilpatrick should be sentenced to no more than 15 years.

Bad News: Falcons WR Julio Jones Likely Out For Season

juliojones

The Atlanta Falcon fan base got some more bad news today.

The team said Tuesday that Jones will have a second opinion Wednesday, but it looks like his third season is done after five games.

“The results are not encouraging, but we will wait to see what the second opinion comes back as,” coach Mike Smith said. “It would be premature at this time (to say he’s out for the season). He’s going over to Charlotte for a second opinion tomorrow.”

Smith refused to “get into what foot it is and the specifics of the injury.” He added, “But the first diagnosis was not encouraging.”

Jones had a broken foot at the NFL scouting combine, but still worked out as a draft hopeful.

Jones, 24, was among the NFL’s leaders this season with 41 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns, including eight catches for 99 yards in Monday night’s loss to the New York Jets. One of those catches was a spectacular lunging, one-handed grab while Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie was draped on him.

It’s just more bad news for the Falcons, who are 1-4 and already trailing the unbeaten New Orleans Saints by four games in the NFC South Division. Atlanta won the division last season.

Diddy has always touted himself as a family man when it came to his Bad Boy record label. He doesn’t limit his love of family just to the business side of things. Diddy takes even more pride in his real family.

Recently Diddy took time out of his busy day to watch his six-year-old twins girls, D’Lila and Jesse Combs, and daughter Chance walk in the Swarovski show during New York Kids Fashion Week.

The little ones Diddy bopped down the runway wearing Ooh! La, La! Couture as their proud father looked on. Their mothers, Kim Porter and Sarah Chapman, as well as Diddy’s own mom Janice Combs were also in attendance and posed for a family portrait.

“My 3 little super models #ProudDad …I’m really in trouble! No for real. No dating till you’re 25!!! Haa lol,” tweeted Diddy. “Words can’t explain how proud I am of my young ladies ! There’s no greater feeling #fact.”

Sinead O’Connor To Miley: ‘Not cool’ To Pimp Yourself

Sindead Conner

Sinead O’Connor knows music and controversy. (Remember her bashing the Catholic church)

So when Miley Cyrus told Rolling Stone that O’Connor’s music video for Nothing Compares 2 U partly inspired her Wrecking Ball, O’Connor figured it was time to weigh in.

In an open letter to Miley, O’Connor, 46, imparts advice, done in “the spirit of motherliness and with love.”

O’Connor writes that she is “extremely concerned” that Miley believes it is “in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping.”

She warns, “Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent.”

O’Connor urges Miley to “pay close attention,” as she says that the music business doesn’t care about “any of us.”

She continues, “They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted.. and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, “they” will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone.”

O’Connor also says that we live in a “dangerous world. We don’t encourage our daughters to walk around naked in it because it makes them prey for animals and less than animals, a distressing majority of whom work in the music industry and its associated media. … You are worth more than your body or your sexual appeal. … Whether we like it or not, us females in the industry are role models and as such we have to be extremely careful what messages we send to other women. The message you keep sending is that it’s somehow cool to be prostituted.. it’s so not cool Miley.. it’s dangerous.”

Dame Dash’s Son Arrested For Choking Girlfriend

New York Emmy Nominee Cocktail Party

The son of Roc-a-Fella co-founder Dame Dash was arrested this past Tuesday night in NYC for choking his girlfriend.

Damon Dash II, 22, was charged with misdemeanor assault and strangulation for allegedly squeezing his girlfriend’s neck as they argued on Sept. 22 in his West 16th Street apartment.

According to the The New York Post

“They had an apparent dispute over sex,” a law enforcement source told The Post of Dash-the-younger and his girlfriend.

“She was visiting him at his apartment, he got violent with her, starts to punch her, slap her and shove her onto the bed, got on top of her, he grabs her by the throat and chokes her,” the source said.

They briefly reconciled but then had another fight, at which point the victim called the cops, the source said.

Dash climbed on top of her and “placed both of [his] hands around [her] neck and squeezed tightly,” to the point where she had trouble breathing, according to the misdemeanor complaint against him.

At his arraignment on Wednesday, Dash signed an order of protection barring him from any contact with his alleged victim. He was released without bail.

“He did get physically violent with her,” the source added. “She suffered bruises, a black eye and a cut lip.” Her neck was left with red marks, the complaint alleges.
